Children’s Mental Health Week
This year we have thought about the national theme ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’
In year 3 we have been thinking about what makes us unique such as what are our strengths, qualities, likes, dislikes, hopes and emotions. We played a fun fitness bingo game where we had to find other children in our class who had certain qualities like being left handed, is an only child, enjoys cooking, likes swimming and then do the fitness challenge that matched that statement! This also helped us learn some things we have in common too. We learnt that taking time to get to know ourselves can also have a positive impact on our well being and self esteem, especially as we realise what our strengths are like being kind, helpful, art, times tables, cooking, encouraging others, playing a sport and how we can work through challenges, emotions or things we find hard.
We discussed who we can talk to in school and at home if we have feelings and emotions that we find tricky to manage. We spoke about when something triggers a difficult emotion to manage, we could use some strategies such as singing, a physical activity, 5 finger breaths, mindfulness, going to a calming space and reading, which can really help us feel better or calmer again.
Finally, we spent some time focussing on ‘who we are,’ what is important to us and our goals for the future and created our own unique ‘All about me hoodie.’
