Y1 Old and New Toys – A big thank you to Hedon Museum
Hedon Museum spent the afternoon with our Year 1 children today. They thoroughly enjoyed the carousel of activities set up in the big hall.
Children sorted toys into past and present. As a group they discussed the look, purpose, function and materials each were made of and then attempted to place them within rough historical periods.
They also sorted the toys by what they were made of. Children categorised them based on their primary material and then discussed why certain materials were commonly used.
Children were given the chance to play with and study a series of toys which they prioritised into different orders using key statements, such as “Which toy would you most like to take home?” or “Which toy do you think is the most expensive?”
Once children had decided on a favourite toy, they were then able to create a poster to “sell” it describing why it was their favourite and of course how much it would cost.
Some of our funniest moments were of course exploring toys through play!
